Application

Felt for gaskets has a number of unique properties:

  • naturalness, absence of chemical components in the composition;
  • elasticity, flexible structure of the material, but at the same time strength and wear resistance;
  • the felt does not burn, but only smolders.

Thanks to this, felt gaskets have found wide application in a wide variety of areas.

Felt pads have high elasticity, soften impacts and reduce vibrations of mechanisms. Because of this, they are widely used to seal joints in fuel tanks, steering columns, gearbox plugs, filters and other joints.

Felt pads are resistant to sulfuric acid. This property is responsible for the widespread use of felt gaskets in chemical plants, as well as in petrochemical, steel and construction industries.

Felt for gaskets, depending on the raw materials used for its manufacture, is produced in several types:

  • Coarse wool felt for gaskets, grade A
  • Coarse wool felt for gaskets, grade B

Raw materials used for the production of felt for gaskets

The different properties of different types of felt are due to the different composition of the raw materials used for its production.

The composition of the raw materials used for the production of coarse wool felt for gaskets is regulated by regulatory documents (GOST or TU) according to which the felt is produced, and must comply with the following standards for composition and quantity:

  • Type of fiber - Mass fraction of fibers in the mixture, %,
  • Natural sheep wool, calculated as washed – 41%
  • Factory sheep wool – 7%
  • Factory cow wool – 10%
  • Other factory wool -5%
  • Regenerated wool -25%
  • Refined products from own production – 12%

The composition of the raw materials used for the production of semi-coarse wool felt for pads is regulated by regulatory documents (GOST or TU) according to which the felt is produced, and must comply with the following standards for composition and quantity:

  • Type of fiber - Mass fraction of fibers in the mixture, %,
  • Natural semi-coarse varietal sheep wool - 43 - 38%;
  • Sheepskin fur semi-fine and semi-coarse wool, combed semi-coarse tow – 20 - 10%;
  • Factory cow wool – 8 – 5%;
  • Recovered wool and waste products from its production in purified form - 19 - 17%

The composition of the raw materials used for the production of fine-wool felt for gaskets is regulated by regulatory documents (GOST or TU) according to which the felt is produced, and must comply with the following standards for composition and quantity:

  • Type of fiber - Mass fraction of fibers in the mixture, %,
  • Natural fine wool of at least 60 quality – 30%;
  • Natural semi-fine wool -20%;
  • Natural semi-coarse wool – 25%;
  • Large fine and semi-fine combed tow and fine sheepskin wool – 25%.
